The BR90 Battle Rifle is a selective fire service rifle of the United Nations Space Command, introduced in 2567. Designed to replace the BR85 Series and taking after the BR55 Series, the BR90 has become standard issue along side the MA6A. The BR90 is an enormous leap forward from the BR85, featuring better accuracy, frictionless barrel coating and a selective fire capability. The BR90 fills the capability void between smaller caliber weapons using the 7.62x51mm NATO, which lacks sufficient range and stopping power, and larger caliber weapons chambered for the .50 BMG and14.5x114mm cartridges, which lack the portability of smaller systems. Utilizing the 9.5x45mm high velocity, full power rifle round, the BR90 is able to engage targets at short, medium and semi-long ranges, its accuracy and stopping power great advantages against heavily shielded and armored infantry targets. As a battle rifle, the BR90 fires a full-sized rifle round with increased range, accuracy and kinetic energy characteristics compared to assault rifles, giving a distinct advantage when facing hostile infantry forces. The rifle is also modular, allowing for a wide array of attachments to be added.
